BASS FIGHT 2005 "This Time It's Personal" (Photos by J-Ro below) ended up with more controversy than BASS FIGHT 2004 "The Return Of Thunder-Thumb". Sources close to the Event say that Benjamin FUNK Johnson 6'4 245 tapped out in the 3 round, but his people say he did not do any such thing. The Judges ruled it a No Contest with another Re-Match to be held in Charlotte, NC April 7th 2006 at the SkNet Cafe.

In other BF05 News, the Bass Fight 2005 Preliminary Matches went really well with some stand out players including Bryan "RazorBack" Shields on 5 String Bass, Tobias of Motor Mouth Mabel on 3 String Bass & David from Atlanta on the Donated Bass from Mt. Pleasant Music.
Also, Geoffrey G5 Cormier's Percussion Solo raised a few ears.
Keep an eye out for BASS FIGHT 2006 "Unresolved-Issues"

"The James Jamerson Project"

The Charleston Jazz Initiative, a multi-year research project based in the Arts Management Program in partnership with the Avery Research Center at the College of Charleston, Charleston, South Carolina is interested in planning a second series of events honoring the life and music of the late James Jamerson (a two-day tribute was held several years ago). It is our hope to plan a James Jamerson clinic for bassists, a day-long picnic on Edisto Island, South Carolina (Jamerson's birthplace) where we would like to invite the Funk Brothers, and other events celebrating Jamerson's career.

No firm commitments have been made for these plans, yet. Funding is needed to further develop our ideas. If you know of potential sponsors who might be interested in learning more about these plans and helping to fund these events, have them contact Dr. Karen Chandler at chandlerk@cofc.edu or Jack McCray at jmccray@postandcourier.com, the co-principals of the Charleston Jazz Initiative. See www.charlestonjazz.net about the Charleston Jazz Initiative.
